Hire policies. Fair to both sides.

Clear ground rules that protect contractors and equipment owners alike. By hiring or listing on PlantLynk, both parties agree to these terms — alongside our Terms.

ℹ️ PlantLynk is an introduction service — the hire agreement is concluded directly between the contractor and the owner. These policies are the sensible default; the two parties can agree otherwise in writing before the hire starts.

Fuel

Hirer & Owner

Who pays for diesel.

Unless agreed otherwise, on dry hire the hirer supplies all fuel and daily consumables and returns the machine at the same fuel level it arrived. On wet hire, fuel is usually included in the rate — confirm with the owner before the job.

Breakdown

Owner

Keeping the job moving if a machine fails.

Owners must list only machines in good working order. If a machine breaks down through no fault of the hirer, the owner repairs or replaces it within a reasonable time, and the hirer is not charged for downtime caused by that mechanical failure.

Damage & misuse

Hirer & Owner

Who carries liability for damage.

The hirer is responsible for damage caused by misuse, negligence, or use outside the agreed scope of work. Damage during normal, agreed operation remains the owner's responsibility unless shown otherwise. Both sides should note the machine's condition on arrival and return.

Operator responsibility

Depends on hire type

Who supplies and is responsible for the operator.

Dry hire (machine only): the hirer provides a qualified, competent operator and is responsible for their conduct. Wet hire (machine + operator): the owner supplies the operator and remains responsible for their employment and compliance with labour law.

Late return & extensions

Hirer

Holding a machine longer than booked.

Need the machine longer? Arrange the extension with the owner before the hire ends. Continued use without agreement may attract additional charges at the standard hourly or daily rate. A minimum 8-hour day is common practice for day-rate hire.

Site safety & access

Hirer

Safe, workable conditions on site.

The hirer ensures the site is safe and suitable — adequate ground conditions, clear access for delivery and operation, and compliance with local health, safety and OHS requirements. Delivery and site access details are agreed at booking.

Transport & delivery

Hirer & Owner

Getting the machine to site.

Transport is quoted separately from the machine rate. When you pin your exact site, PlantLynk shows the distance from the machine's base so the owner can quote travel accurately — or you can hire a transport/lowbed listing (priced per km) as part of your request.

🛡️ Stay safe when transacting: never pay a deposit before you've confirmed the owner's details and seen the machine (or solid proof of it). Verified owners carry the green badge. Report anything that feels off — contact us.
